| The Mount Coot-tha Electorate | |
The electorate of Mount Coot-tha was established in 61 years ago.
But today the area is a far cry from 1949.
Wholly encompassing the suburbs of Petrie Terrace, Paddington, Red Hill, Milton, Auchenflower, Bardon and Rainworth – as well as Toowong, and a small area of Taringa - the electorate is an inner-city seat, predominantly residential and characterised by a younger demographic.
That demographic is reflected by the electoral roll.
A staggering 47 per cent – nearly half – of all voters in Mount Coot-tha are aged between 18 and 44.
One in five people are between the age of 18 and 24.
The population is also highly mobile with 57% of people at a different address to their address of five years ago.
Income, employment, education and internet access levels are all above the state average.
The electorate also encompasses many important metropolitan landmarks including Government House in Fernberg Road and Suncorp Stadium, the Milton Brewery, Mount Coot-tha television towers and the Mount Coot-tha botanical gardens.
The area houses schools including Ithaca Creek State School, Milton State School, Petrie Terrace State School, Rainworth State School, Red Hill Special School and Toowong State School.
Other primary schools in the electorate are St Ignatius at Toowong and St Joseph’s at Bardon along with Brisbane Boys College and Stuartholme.
The area is also one of Brisbane’s best frequented social areas with focal points including Toowong Village, Park Road, Caxton Street, Rosalie Village and Given and Latrobe Terraces in Paddington.
